The Family History Library

Outside the entrance to the Salt Lake City Family History Center

After I got married I moved to Salt Lake City where, if you are into genealogy, you know that there is a very large building located there called The Family History Library or FHL. This is the place for genealogist - amatuer and professional alike. This is the place where year after year genealogists travel  in search of their ancestors. They come here because there are an abundance of records of every kind, all housed in one location! Secondly, the records are free, open to the public to view, no hidden fees, just come and partake. Thirdly, if you happen to have relatives that spoke a foreign tongue, no problem. They have trained experts who can translate and teach you how to read those foreign words that your ancestors spoke. Fourthly (is that a word), if the Family History Library does not have the records you are seeking, they will direct you to where you can find the records or to professionals that have access to the records.
If you can't tell, I love the Family History Library. It is a wonderful place. If you have never walked through their doors, you must. But I warn you - you might never be the same!

The Beginning

I have begun the New Year by closing down my family blog and opening this genealogy blog. Genealogy is on the list of the top 5 things I love. It is extremely rewarding, interesting and fun to do. The main purpose of this blog is to make connections with any and all of my "cousins" that I can. I hope to collaborate with other genealogists out there that are working on my family lines. I also hope to be of help to those who are searching for information on common ancestors and haven't found much yet. I have information on my direct lines and also have done a fair amount of descendancy research, as well.

I am hoping to slowly add a picture here and a story there. It will be a slow evolution into hopefully something of value. If nothing else, it will be a place where I can bring my genealogy that I have worked on for so many years, out of my home and into a place of sharing.
